Education Reforms in Indian Settings
Recently, we all had our Mid Terms, one of my friends got
low marks in physics and she told her teacher that she didn’t had interest in
that subject but the teacher retorted back and said, if you don’t get good
marks, you will not get good cgpa and no placement and the teacher seemed to be
very satiated. On the other hand, the student got demoralized and that’s where
I see that we have restricted the realms of education and reduced its
definition to nothing more than a way to land up in a lucrative position.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
The incident clearly throws light on the fact that we
have failed to define the core meaning and the ultimate purpose of education to
our students. Today, there is no education, but there is a huge education
industry and the problem is not with our education system, its about the people
who are delivering it at the end.
In today’s technological era, we are moving towards
e-learning, we are using the most sophisticated classrooms to teach our
children, We teach about everything to our
students except the basic ingredient of life that is “myself”, and that’s the
core human thing which is needed at the end and that’s where we are lacking. On
getting low marks, a student gets into emotional trauma, why? because we never
worked upon channelizing their perspectives and their intellect and that’s why
he/she is not having the clarity of thought process. Technology is important but
today we need more humanity than technology.
Let’s take the example of Lovely Professional University. This university organizes
many workshops for the betterment of students, but if you go outside and ask
them, you will get to know that many of them are not interested in the workshop
but they are interested in getting the certificates which will add up to their
CV. Its not only about LPU, its everywhere, our focus is more on certificates to
prove ourselves and not improve ourselves. And this vividly
shows that we have failed to imbibe the value of willingness to learn something
new and creative.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
The time demands a big change. A change to change the
perception of our children. A change which doesn’t focus on outcome of
education but creates interest in the journey of being educated .A lot of
reforms need to be made in education of Indian settings.
Firstly, instead of mastering the art of software
engineering, we need to excel in the art of inner engineering, we need more to
learn about ourselves , we need to channelize the perception of our students in
such a way that they come out as well formed minds instead of well filled
minds.
Secondly, we need to teach children how to expand oneself
and explore the deeper dimensions of our intelligence.
Thirdly, the motive of willingness to learn should be the
driving force of education, the brains of our students should be solution
oriented and focusing more on larger vision than personal ambition. We need to
inculcate values and ethics for making them a good citizen and a better human
being.
Fourthly, We need to identify the hidden talents of our
students and utilize their creativity in a productive way . We need to nurture
them in a way that they can give right direction to themselves by their own.
Schools should focus on developing human mind and human body at its fullest
potential.
More than artificial intelligence, our areas of focus
should be on innovating our inner intelligence and preparing our students for
the universe not for the university.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
The upcoming future would be more focused on artificial
intelligence and machine learning, while technology is crucial, it will be far
more powerful when in the hands of the emotionally literate geek. And to
provide a future generation with high levels of emotional literacy we need to
institutionalize empathy — to systematize it, making it a part of the foundations
of our learning both at work and as school.
At last I would like to say that,
Education should be able to transform a stone into a
statue and a moth into a butterfly. The students should be able to use
education as a tool for self realization. The focus of reformative policies
should be from individual excellence to societal growth.
Education should be like that it can take us to any exciting place
within ourselves.
Thank You! Jai Hind!
